This course is designed to provide basic technical, artistic, and theoretical
instruction used in the creation of digital photographic imagery.
The course
will provide technical instruction concerning digital camera operation, digital
darkroom techniques using Adobe Lightroom 2.0 and Adobe Photoshop CS4, digital capture and manipulation,
and printing.
Assignments will consist of: Individual projects performed both during
and outside of class meeting times. There will also be tests to evaluate
student understanding of all technical aspects of photography taught during the
course.
The due date is always part of the assignment.
Late work
will not be accepted.
All class
information is posted via the web at http://www.withmeat.com.
Information, techniques, demonstrations, slide lectures, discussions and critiques
will be taught throughout the semester. Students are required to attend
all lecture and lab times unless instructed differently.
It is the responsibility
of the student to get any missed information from other students in the class;
I will NOT email you an entire lecture.
Lectures will
not be repeated. If you know in advance that you are not going to be in class,
please talk to me so we can make arrangements.
Tardiness will not
be tolerated; please be on time or you may be dropped from the class without
warning.
Though this is a 6 hour class, I will be treating it as two 3 hour classes, meaning that missing two days is equivalent to four classes and is grounds for dropping you from the class without warning.
There will be bathroom and food breaks.
Grading is based on many different aspects, including, but not limited to:
Progress,
technical ability, intent, improvement, innovation, and the over-all quality
of the work.
Letter grades will be given for each project. In addition to projects
your grade is earned through: tests, participation, punctuality, and attendance.
Final Grades are based on a simple percentage scale: 90-100% = A (Excellent),
80-89% = B (Good), 70-79% = C (Average), 60-69% = D (Below Average), 59% and
below = F (Fail)
Critiques are mandatory.
Missing a critique will drop your project grade
an additional letter, so even if you have nothing to show during a critique,
you must attend.
Work is due the week before a critique so that it may be printed.
Failure to attend the mid-term or final critiques is an
automatic failure in the class.
Cheating and Plagiarism are against both the Instructor’s
and the College’s student conduct policy. At the discretion
of the Instructor, either will be punishable by a failing grade
for the assignment or the course.

It is the responsibility of the student to know and adhere to all college deadlines
and procedures. If you can no longer attend the class, make sure you drop it
properly; failure to do so will result in an “F”
grade in the class.
Please discuss any special needs you may require with the instructor at the beginning
of the semester so that arrangements can be made to facilitate your success in
the class.
Inappropriate usage of the equipment or the internet, including unauthorized
use of the internet during lectures, is cause for a drop from the class or an "F" grade
being assigned.
This is a six hour class in two parts: You are required to attend both portions of the class.
Lab techs have full authority. Any defiant or rude behavior towards lab techs or any other student in the class will result in your removal from the class, a failing grade, and a report to academic affairs.
