Photo 201 Syllabus

Course Objective
This course is designed to provide basic technical, artistic, and theoretical instruction used in the creation of digital photographic imagery.

The course will provide technical instruction concerning digital camera controls, functions and settings, digital darkroom techniques, storage, archiving, and printing. Composition, light and portraiture will also be explored.

Assignments
Assignments will consist of weekly projects performed outside of class meeting times. There will also be tests to evaluate student understanding of all technical aspects of photography taught during the course.

The due date is always part of the assignment.

Late work will not be accepted.

Turning in work:
Images are to be turned in on a CD-R (Please no DVD-R's) in jpeg format.

Do not send me a link to your photo bucket or flickr account.

As an alternate (preferred) method of turn-in, work may be emailed to the email address at the top of the syllabus by Noon on Wednesday prior to the day it is to be shown.

If I receive it, you will get a confirmation email. If you don't get an email it is your responsibility to follow up but don't resend the images unless I ask you to.

Do not expect an email on Thursdays,Fridays or Saturdays.

Email is a convenience with many restrictions, so don't rely on it or wait until the last minute to send.

You also have to make the image small enough to send (no larger than 1024 pixels in either dimension).

All images must be renamed using this format: lastname_project_1-001.jpg
Lowercase, no spaces, and no special symbols other than hyphen or underscore.

Only turn in 5 images per assignment. Any images beyond the first five on a disk will be ignored.

All class information is posted via the web at http://www.withmeat.com.

Attendance
Information, techniques, demonstrations, slide lectures, discussions and critiques will be taught throughout the semester. Students are required to attend all lecture and lab times.

It is the responsibility of the student to get any missed information from other students in the class; I will not email you an entire lecture. Lectures will not be repeated.

Grading Policies
Final Grades are based on completion of all projects on time. There are a total of 7 outside of class shooting projects; one each week. In addition, there is one unposted homework print project, and a final exam. There are a total of 100 points available.

Final Grades are based on a simple percentage scale: 90-100% = A (Excellent), 80-89% = B (Good), 70-79% = C (Average), 60-69% = D (Below Average), 59% and below = F (Fail)

You must do all the assignments to receive an "A" in this class.

You must attend all class meetings. Missing the last class meeting can significantly reduce your grade and even cause you to recieve an "F" in the class.

Cheating and Plagiarism are against both the Instructor’s and the College’s student conduct policy. At the discretion of the Instructor, either will be punishable by a failing grade for the assignment or the course.

Additional Requirements
It is the responsibility of the student to know and adhere to all college deadlines and procedures. If you can no longer attend the class, make sure you drop it properly; failure to do so will result in an “F” grade in the class.

Please discuss any special needs you may require with the instructor at the beginning of the semester so that arrangements can be made to facilitate your success in the class.

STUDENT CELL PHONES ARE NOT ALLOWED WITHIN THE CLASSROOM!

YOU MUST BRING YOUR CAMERA TO CLASS EVERY DAY!
