Shooting Modes
Camera modes usually define HOW you are using your camera. Most cameras have an automatic mode that decides all the settings for the user, this is usually in green lettering or has a green rectangle or icon. Some modes don't have a dial to select them, meaning you have to start by pressing some kind of button



Some common shooting modes:
     
M
Manual
Allows the user to change ALL the settings within the camera.

P
Program
Just like Automatic mode, except the user can over-ride certain settings like flash, iso, and exposure compensation.

Av
Aperture Priority
Allows user to set the aperture and the camera sets the corresponding shutter speed appropriate to the lighting conditions.

Tv
Shutter Priority
Allows user to set the shutter speed and the camera sets the corresponding aperture appropriate to the lighting conditions.

C1
Custom
Allows user to save settings for easy access later.

 
Movie
Allows user to record short duration movies.

Playback
Allows playback of images or movies without engaging the camera or lens.

Audio
Allows user to record short duration of audio.

 
Creative
Allows user to access preconfigured creative settings designed for specific subjects and lighting conditions.
