Pre-programmed Settings & Creative Zones
These are areas, settings, modes whatever the manafacturer wants to call them, where a formula or recipe for a particular kind of shot is already programmed into the camera.


In reality, since creativity is driven by choices, these are probably the least creative areas of the camera since you will have the least amount of input other than selecting the right recipe. Where the creativity comes into play is how you decide to use these pre-programmed settings.

Some common settings:

Portrait Short DOF (large aperture), Center Weight Meter, ISO auto, WB Auto
Landscape Long DOF (small aperture), Pattern Meter (aggressive sharpening, contrast & color adjustments), ISO auto, WB Auto
Sports Fast Shutter Speed, Center Weight, Anti-Shake, Continuous Shooting On, ISO auto, AF Servo Focus (continuous focusing), WB Auto
Macro Short Focus Distance, Center or Spot Meter, Anti-Shake, WB Auto, Continuous Drive Off, ISO auto
Night Portrait Short DOF, Pattern Meter, Slow Shutter Speed, Slow Sync Flash, Noise Reduction, ISO auto
  Night Landscape Long DOF, Slow Shutter, Cancels Flash, Sets Focus to Infinity, Pattern Meter, Noise Reduction, ISO auto
  Museum Cancels Flash, Opens Aperture, activates anti-shake, ISO auto, WB auto
  Snow/Sand Over-Exposes Very Bright Scenes, Pattern Meter, Auto ISO & WB
  Backlight Center Weight Meter, Flash, Foreground more important
  Flower (#2) Vivid Colors
  Self Portrait Short Focus Distance, Center Weight, Flash Compensation
  Landscape w/Portrait Sets Aperture to Make Foreground and Background in Focus
  Fireworks Open Aperture, High ISO, Noise Reduction, Anti-Shake, Cancels Flash, Focus to Infinity
  Text Allows for text to be copied (macro-ish)
  B&W Desaturates (Better to do with Software)
  Natural Green Turns off Vivid Color Enhancement
  Pet
