To The Nth Power...

(Telephoto)

This project is intended to introduce you to telephoto lenses.

You may use any camera that shoots 135 (or equivalent).

You may borrow a camera and 70-300mm lens from us, or provide your own. Check-out is for one week only and you are fully responsible for the lens and camera, so please take care of it.

People use the word "zoom" often to refer to lenses that magnify our field of view, but this is incorrect terminology. The correct use of the word zoom is to define a lens that can change focal lengths (not fixed). The correct term for any lens that magnifies the field of view greater than what the human eye sees, is called telephoto.

Goal:  Learn to compose utilizing telephoto lenses while dealing with the unique issues specific to long focal lengths.

Telephoto Notes:

Telephoto (long focal length = narrow field of view).

Anything above what the human eye sees (50mm on a 35mm format) is considered telephoto.

Project Notes:

You must shoot on 135mm or greater.

You must shoot candids only.

Your images must show "a touch of voyeurism".

Turn in 2 images (11x14 or larger)
