Salt & Pepper

Salt and Pepper
(High Grain & Contrast)

This project is designed to accentuate the natural grain inherent in high speed film by using a "high activity" developer such as Agfa's Rodinal. It is also designed to show the effects of pushing film.

First roll:
3200 speed film (either Kodak T-Max 3200 or Ilford Delta 3200) and shoot images with noticeable contrast. This will be developed using rodinal.

Second roll:
shoot Kodak Tri-X 400 or Ilford HP5 400 but rate (over-ride) it's iso to 800 or 1600. This will be developed using standard HC110 Dilution B, developer.

Notes:
Bracket your exposures to ensure that you get one exposure that is at least a stop over-exposed.

We will be using 1:25 or 1:50 dilution with the rodinal and printing on 11x14, or larger, fiber based paper.

What to shoot:
Look for things with obvious mood and a noticeable "quality" of light. Try to define the mood in words and then shoot with that word in mind. The light may be set-up if desired.
